You need to rethink your 'safe' investments

He's a top dog at Noble Capital Advisors, and this Wall Street insider just dropped some hard advice that could be your lifeline in these crazy economic times.

Bonds: They Are Not So Safe Anymore

Remember when bonds were the "safe" bet? Well, Noble says those days might be over. Even 10-year bonds aren't bulletproof anymore. Bonds have seen some rough years:

• Worst year: Down 25%

• Worst 3-year stretch: Down 34%

• Worst decade: Down a whopping 44%

Yikes, right?

​Noble is also worried about how much the government is spending. He says we're "spending like drunken sailors" (his words, not mine!), and that could spell trouble for inflation.

He thinks we're entering a different era where the old rules no longer apply.

So, what does an investor do? This is what Noble suggests:

• Steer clear of bonds

• Be wary of companies with sky-high valuations

• Target profitable companies

• Steer clear of companies that need to keep borrowing to stay afloat

• Think twice about jumping on "politically correct" investment bandwagons

Enter: Gold

Noble thinks this precious metal could be the new haven. Whether it's G.L.D. or gold company stocks (he mentions G.D.X.), it might be time to go for the gold!

Also, keep an eye on:

• The energy sector (check out X.O.P.)

• Shipping stocks (like Scorpio Tanker, STNG)
